The History of SIGNA SYSTEM, Co

SIGNA SYSTEM is a product and service which has been successfully marketed in Europe since 1976 and in the USA since 1980. The product SIGNA RIG or (SIGNA Retrofit Insulated Glass) is also known as Scandinavian Insulated Glass of North America, from this the name SIGNA was derived.

This technology and the components for the system were first developed and patented in Scandinavia by Ryszard Borys, a Polish architect, between the years of 1974 and 1976, in cooperation with an engineer named Leslaw Becker, and the Danish and Norwegian Institutes of Technology. This creation was a response to the first energy embargo by oil producing countries (OPC) which had created the economic recession of 1974 in the European markets and in the world economy. During the development process, the SIGNA SYSTEM had been tested a number of times by the Danish Institute of Technology in Aarhus and by the Norwegian Institute of Technology in Trondheim. The Trondheim Institute is known for providing testing services of insulated glass for British Pilkington Ltd. (today known as the NSG Group) as an independent objective financed by the Norwegian government laboratory.

As a result of all the testing for accelerated aging, moisture exposure, and UV radiation, and after several changes were applied, a final product emerged warranting durability, a long life expectancy, a simple installation process, and an attractive appearance.

Over the years, this system and its methods of installation have been improved upon even more so taking advantage of new developments in glass materials, tools, installation techniques, and years of hands on Chicagoland field experience. Whatever the improvements, the tried and time-tested principles warranting durability and dependability remain the same. The last 30 years of installations using the SIGNA SYSTEM are the best testimony to these achievements.
